Chimney flashing is one of the most complex and leak-prone areas of any roof. A proper chimney flashing system consists of base flashing that covers the joint between the chimney and the roof deck, step flashing on the sides of the chimney, counter flashing embedded in the chimney mortar joints, and a saddle or cricket behind the chimney to divert water around it.
